Willing to be Wrong

Reading of the Day 6/11/25: Psalms 6-8

Psalm 7:5: Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

So often we focus on the heroic, courageous people of the Bible. All their mighty acts, their righteous behaviors against wickedness, their dependence upon God all along the way...but what about a willingness to be wrong? I feel like that is the most self-sacrificing, difficult, humbling thing to do! It is one of the most heroic acts one can do, even though it seems like it could never measure up to fighting in battle or speaking fierce words of boldness like John the Baptist. But this above verse truly humbled me. Before this, David was saying that if he had done anything bad, any form of iniquity, or did somebody wrong who did not deserve it, then this above verse would be the judgment for it. Persecution. Treading down his life. Laying his honor in the dust. It sure takes a lot to admit we are wrong...but then to take it as far as being willing to destroy oneself as the result? That takes true humility, and a true love & passion for wanting to do things right in God's eyes! And David was most definitely one of those people who did all of those heroic acts! He got the victory in many battles. Was one of the greatest kings in history. And yet, his position did not make him too prideful to come to a humble place like this. We don't have nearly as many eyes watching us as David did...and he was still willing to be wrong. Willing to admit he failed. It reminds me of Moses, who was willing to risk his life standing in the gap for the Israelites when God was ready to destroy them. Even though he was right, he was also willing to be wrong. It hurts. It's hard. We feel like we have a million reasons to explain ourselves instead of just apologizing. But in the end, we can focus on this Scripture: Titus 2:12: "Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;" Living righteously is a willingness to be wrong. A willingness to admit our mistakes & own up to them. A willingness to most of all, be like Christ, Who was wronged more deeply than any of us & was willing to take on more of a punishment than any of us ever could. He is our true Hero! John 15:13: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
