The Lord's Reward

Reading of the Day: Psalms 126-128

Psalm 127:3: Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Although there are so many amazing Scriptures throughout the Psalms, I cannot pass this one up without thinking about how The Lord has truly blessed us with the children we have! I definitely had to stop & make this the focus of the day and remind myself that this Scripture is worth going back to often. Yes, there's chaos. Messes. Medical needs. And everything in between...and sometimes, as parents, we wonder how we will manage it all. Thankfully though, rewards never stop being a good thing, and children are defined as rewards in Scripture! Out of all the hard things we can experience in the world, children are the honor, prize & bonus of it all. Children are the greatest achievements! All we have to do is pray about how we must manage them (because the chaos & messes are still real, no matter how much of a reward they are!). But when we realize that they ARE and ALWAYS WILL BE rewards, we perceive the challenges differently...and this is because, in life, we must choose our "hard." There are many things we can do that are hard, and they don't profit us much. But having children is the greatest undertaking, and it yields the greatest fruit! I choose children any day! When a child is born, a heritage & legacy are also formed & come into existence! I recently read an article about a brave Mother who was in a concentration camp during WWII. She sadly, yet courageously, gave her baby to heroes who were secretly saving children underground in the sewers, taking them through the tunnels to safety & freedom. As she lowered her son in to them, she whispered, "Grow where I cannot." She did not survive, but praise God he did! He was cared for, and cared enough to go back to those sewers when he grew up to leave a rose. Her legacy lived on. He grew where she could not. No other thing we could invest in could carry us in their hearts...but our children will. Although we have a much better set of circumstances than the Mothers of the Holocaust, we must still prepare our rewards to grow where we cannot. We are doing something so much bigger than we can realize or dream, and not just on this earth, but in Heavenly places. These are generations who will do great things to honor God, and that is a reward & gift that keeps on giving!
