Love Anyway

Reading of the Day 7/15/25: Psalms 108-110

Psalm 109:4: For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

It may sometimes feel like an exhaustive exercise in futility to love. And I don't mean the unseen love that rests in our hearts for others, because that is always there...but I mean to show the action of love. That's because love isn't just a hug...it's a long-suffering, ongoing account of selfless sacrifices, especially toward those who don't always love us back. But our goal is to love anyway! That's exactly what David is talking about here. For his love, people in his life became his adversaries. And because of this, he gave himself unto prayer. David kept showing kindness to king Saul even though it hurt. Even though he was being attacked for no reason. Even though Saul didn't understand. Even though the love wasn't returned...and prayer was the key to David loving anyway in that Christ-like way. In our own strength, it's impossible. We feel like we want to scream, "Can't you see what I'm going through!?" And Jesus could have done the same on His way to the cross...but He gave love when He only got pain in return. What a mighty and truly loving God we serve! His kindness spoke "louder than the crowd" as we spoke about in a previous post. He will bless us if we keep loving hard in hard times: Matthew 5:10: "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Love is an eternal message! Love is the only way people will be attracted to Jesus and make it to Heaven! Love will show people the way! There is so much more to loving people than meets the eye...so let's love anyway!

Matthew 5:44-45: "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."
